Road trip advice; Oregon Coast to San Diego?
My partner and I are planning a road trip (approx 2 weeks) from Portland to San Diego. We want to take the coast the entire way, and have solid plans to stop in in Arcata and Santa Cruz. What I want to know is other great places to stop in along the way. We are doing this low budget, so if anyone knows great hostels, campsites, sleepy motels, cheap eats, attractions, etc, that is what I am asking. In addition, I would love to know of any car rental agencies that allow out of state travel, preferably ones with a low gas fleet (either hybrid or biofuel). Thank you!
we will be going late January
Are you taking 101? The view from the car is priceless.
You can’t miss the redwoods on the border of the two states.
Ecola state park in between Seaside and Cannon Beach has some amazing views, last time I heard entrance fee was 4.00.
There’s the sea lion caves near Florence.
Lighthouses, the sand dunes, whale watching, kite flying and a million parks.
You shouldn’t have any problem finding camp grounds along 101 unless you’re directly west of Portland on a weekend. There are lots of cheap motels that aren’t gross or scary along the coast but don’t advertise on the internet.
Plenty of great seafood places. Like Mo’s.
