San Diego Tour Guides
San Diego Tour Guides

I am starting a company that offers guided tours to little known yet interesting destinations. Will this fly?
I am a long term San Diego county resident and know all the cool spots, i.e. waterfalls, caves, old mines, even a turn of the century sawmill. I plan on charging 80 dollars for a 3 to 6 hr adventure and am hesitant about spending good money on a stupid idea. Looking for input, encouragement or whatever.
There are so many things to see in San Diego by tour that cost less than that. A family of 4 might find $320 a bit prohibitive to see a water fall, etc.
Business-wise, have you looked into liability if someone gets hurt? Liability waivers don’t cover you if the injury/loss can be attributed directly to you.
I spent 25 years in San Diego myself. Those old mines and caves are quite dangerous. Most of them are posted “No entry”. Volcan Mountain used to be loaded with them.
I would feel robbed by someone who charged me $80 to show me a hole in the ground that I couldn’t safely explore.
I think most tourists that go to San Diego would prefer to see the things San Diego is famous for. Such as the Beach, the Zoo, the Old Globe, the Olympic Village, Julian, The Scripps, etc.
You are also limiting your possible clientele by going places that are not physically comfortable for many people.
I’m not saying it’s a stupid idea. I am playing “devil’s advocate”, so you can see and perhaps find a way to overcome some of the drawbacks.
